The winding, tree-lined road that led us to The Northridge Inn was dark, as we arrived late in the day in the dead of winter. As we neared our destination, we noticed lights from a clearing up ahead—we drew closer and closer until a large lodge surrounded by a stunning view of a moonlit lake appeared. As we unloaded our bags and walked towards the main lodge, we were in awe of the gorgeous Muskoka-esque ambiance.
The Northridge Inn & Resort is a charming, modern getaway on the shores of Lake Bernard in Sundridge, Ontario. It offers four different types of accommodations (depending on the season) ranging from $150 to $400 per night. Year-round, visitors have the option of staying in one of 20 suites in the Main Lodge or renting a Lakeside Chalet, private cedar cottages where you can enjoy a hot cup of joe on your private deck overlooking the water. In the summer, The Northridge offers glamping in their stylish Safari tents or in their retro Airstream trailer by the lake.
The décor of the Inn is cottage-chic. There are a little pops of Canadiana in each room, like antler chandeliers, moccasins, and Hudson's Bay prints. As we walked through the main lodge towards the back patio overlooking the lake, we noticed a large room set up for an event. The room was a wintery dream and looked straight out of a Style At Home spread.
The Inn's glamping accommodations exceed your average expectations of a tent stay, to say the least. As you walk up the wooden platform and step into your tent, you're greeted by a gorgeous printed rug that frames the room, a large pillowy bed, a chandelier, luxury robes, quirky lamps and a roomy sitting area. Each tent is unique, and every space looks like a Martha Stewart ad-turned-rustic lakeside chalet.
After exploring each of these spaces, we settled into our home for the night: a Retro Airstream by the lake. At first, we were worried about the space, as my husband is 6’4 and we had our dog with us (yes, they are pet friendly!). But when we stepped inside our not-so-little home, we realized it was roomier than it appeared. Our pup was ecstatic!
The Airstream is completely decked out with quirky retro kitsch you might find in a hip antique shop. From the collection of records (which we had playing all day and night) to the classic book collection to the retro pots and pans, it was clear the owners paid close attention to the small details. The back couch pulled out into a cozy bed, and I just loved looking out the window at the moon dancing on the water until my eyes grew heavy.
Walking around the grounds the next day, we threw rocks on the beach and admired the quiet privacy of the location. There are lots activity options to keep you busy depending on the season—during the summer, The Northridge offers kayaking, canoeing, boat rentals, golfing, cooking classes, and bike rentals. In the winter, there are horseback and carriage rides, snowshoeing, cross country skiing and more.
Our stay felt like both an authentic Muskoka experience and a step back in time. The owners made us feel like our needs were their number-one priority and the service was truly incomparable. On our drive home, my husband and I talked about the owners' passion and attention to the detail throughout the resort (their eye for design made us reconsider all of our décor at home!).
We look forward to our next visit at The Northridge Inn—we'll definitely be returning during the summer to try out one of their glamping tents!
